Big Thirsty Aussies

Well, it was a successful fishing day. Sekaiya caught a 3 inch whiting, Tory had a good time, and I got in several hours of practise in the untangling of line, retying of hooks, and baiting of these same hooks. Upside being that it was enthusiastically enjoyed rather than the old "I'm bored, when can we go home?" so perhaps we can now do this on a more regular basis. School holidays finish with the weekend so back to the grindstone for another 9 weeks. I have a bit of work happening,hopefully I will get a bit more as well. We had our first "burning off" fire today with many more to come. Great winter sport: lighting a fire, throwing in a damper ,(we wrap ours securely in foil and cook it in ashes/coals) opening a beer and standing around, with the occassional shovel and/or raking activity taking place! There was no damper today, but hopefully with the next lot of fires. There are still a gazillion sticks to get into piles yet.

Today was ANZAC Day,(veterans/memorial)-Australian & New Zealand Armed Corps. The girls march in the local parade with the school each year. This is the first year that there were no WW1 vets marching in Australia...The last one passed away last year. It is a great sight when you see all the old "Diggers"-that's what they are called- marching down the street with the new cadets. We have two naval bases here so we get a pretty good turnout. my favourite that makes the goosebumps rise and the eyes turn sort of misty is when the very elderly veterans are driven by to the sound of pipe music. seen here after the parade.

Cheyenne Yeah!!! We are back!! The phone company finally fixed the exchange down the end of the road so the broadband is back woo! hoo! We had a great trip up to JoAnns for the Easter weekend. Lots of card games and gin on the veranda. We got to meet our great niece finally as well. The cars were frosted in the morning on Easter which is an early one here. I don't mind if the winter is going to be cold so long as we get some wet along with it. If we don't get any rain by the end of April we go back onto water restrictions. We all enjoyed our birthdays. Happy belated to B-Ball and the Jaxter as well. Well, Autumn has come crashing in upon us with no warning what-so-ever. 1st of April, bloody freezing, and the 1st fire of the year. Please note the bike in the photo. Finally decided we needed to have bikes to ride with the girls (note that the really top market mountain bike was stolen when we were burgled several years back in Nowra). Mine is already in the garage Boris just needs to finish his up. Ok Mike (and anyone else who doesn't know), netball is a game similar to basketball. The difference being that you have to pass. No running with ball, no dribbling, etc. There is no backboard either, just a hoop. It is also a predominately female sport. There is a much larger divide in the whole male/female sports issues here than I remember from back home. It could have been my "rose colored glasses" but I doubt it. We have been very busy here this past week. Hopefully this work will last into the next term.Boris could sure use a break though. Now on a seven day work week...

Does it get any better than this? A bit worried about how grown up Tory is looking though(help). Kaiya is doing a project on frill-necked lizards for school, fortunately we have friends in the reptile business eh? The winter sports season has begun Tory lost her first soccer game but they played really well. Kaiya's first netball game is next Saturday. No weekends away for a while (except Easter at Jo Anns). Well, with ears peirced and sport going strong everyone here is feeling good.... except poor Boris who just finished 2 weeks of 6am starts and Saturday working.... and as if that's not enough, today is probably his last day off for a couple of weeks. The final days of a boats construction are trying ones! Well, off to start the next week....

Well here we go, not even Sunday and I am back! I have had a few days work over the last week (and there was much rejoicing... yeah!!). I am hoping for more after the Easter holidays, I now have my name down at more of the local schools and it looks promising. The girls have had their ears pierced over the last week and are very happy about it. Terry and Cathy are starting a blog now Woo Hoo. they can be found on the geriatric grandparents area of blogger at northcoast news and Jackie is on board as well. I sincerely hope we can keep this up and not let it become a passing phase. For me it is sometimes a way in which I can be back home with everyone and know what is happening in your lives (although they seem to be just as mundane as mine- this is a good thing). It is just good to feel like I can be a bit "there". Well by now it is probably obvious that I have had a couple of wines (beer doesn't make one quite as sentimental), so I will be off to sleep.... need to save s...
