R.I.P. 2006

Well well well..... Happy New Year to one and all! I was putting off posting as I was going to try and do a run down of the past year but at the rate I am working that would most likely see the post up in time for Independence Day, so I will just make it up as I go (actually that should read re-call as I go, but hasn't got quite the same ring to it).
All in all it was a good year for us. We had our first major family vacation, camping and touring and I saw some of the best scenery I have ever seen in my life. I survived turning 40. I went to my first ever professional netball game. I went upside down on a rollercoaster (let us never speak of this again). We watched the girls excel and achieve once more in their schooling and both have grown tremendously, in size and spirit and beauty. We moved house (always good fun).We became a great Aunt and Uncle. A lot of other good things happened along the way as well.

As for our Christmas Holidays, we spent a week on the mid-north coast with all the usual variety of Williams Byrons and a McDonald thrown in there as well.

As Boris had a week off at home as well we did some exploring in our own neck of the woods. These pics are from a hike we took along the foreshore of the bay. In some spots we had to adventure over rocks. In the midst of the very crowded tourist destination that is our home we found some isolated and nearly empty beaches. we stopped whenever we got to hot and had a swim to cool off before continuing on. The photo looking back to where you see the boats is a view back to our usual beach near our home. We also came across a "midden" this is an aboriginal shelter in a natural beach cave where the roof is blackened by fire and shells on the floor from the
shellfish they ate. As well, we found a great stump of wood that unfortunately Boris wouldn't carry home......


















I hope everyone had as good a year as we did and wish you all an even better 2007.

and so it continues.....

We pick up in the life of our hero where we last left him. The mother Gaforady dragon is poised to dive and tear the unconscious Logorian into food for her new hatchling (the last of this regal line). Can the young prince wake and save himself? He is the last hope for the kingdom of Coochlia, and all hope lies upon him to befriend the remaining dragons as much needed allies in the war against the Trougopians. Suddenly up over the edge of the nest rises the red head of.... OOPS sorry bout that wrong story. Right now where were we... ah yes July, and the winter school break.  All has been good here except the wind, and it has not been good. Indeed it has been the polar opposite of good. Fortunately we only lost power once for 3-4 hours, there are some now going on their fourth day in the dark.  Parts of our lovely Shoalhaven were actually declared a National Disaster Area (that makes 2 we have been in during the past month- see previous post). On the Banks of Plum Creek

Well, it was a successful fishing day. Sekaiya caught a 3 inch whiting, Tory had a good time, and I got in several hours of practise in the untangling of line, retying of hooks, and baiting of these same hooks. Upside being that it was enthusiastically enjoyed rather than the old "I'm bored, when can we go home?" so perhaps we can now do this on a more regular basis. School holidays finish with the weekend so back to the grindstone for another 9 weeks. I have a bit of work happening,hopefully I will get a bit more as well. We had our first "burning off" fire today with many more to come. Great winter sport: lighting a fire, throwing in a damper ,(we wrap ours securely in foil and cook it in ashes/coals) opening a beer and standing around, with the occassional shovel and/or raking activity taking place! There was no damper today, but hopefully with the next lot of fires. There are still a gazillion sticks to get into piles yet.
